The BirdLife Africa Partnership Secretariat acted as regional hub for the WOW Project in Eastern and Southern Africa. Located in Nairobi, Kenya - the Secretariat is already helping to support the growing BirdLife Africa Partnership, which includes over 19 autonomous NGOs in 19 countries.
In the context of the Wings Over Wetlands Project, the BirdLife Africa Partnership Secretariat acted as sub-regional hub for a number of countries in both Eastern and Southern Africa (see list below). It used and further expanded its established network to act as a training and capacity building hub for waterbird conservation in the region and helped establish stronger decision making and technical capacity for both wetland and waterbird conservation and management in neighbouring countries. Capacity building and training efforts have been spearheaded in conjunction with the Kenya Wildlife Service Training Institute located in Naivasha.
In addition to helping enhance the overall availability and exchange of information, training and access to capacity building measures in the region, the core activities of the regional hub were also to support the WOW demonstration project implementation in Tanzania, South Africa and Nigeria, coordinate and execute all sub-regional project activities and help translate and disseminate the relevant "lessons learned" from the WOW demonstration projects to stakeholders in the sub-region. This included holding regional workshops and assisting in the development of sub-regional training and awareness raising programmes.
