WOW Regional Centre: Central Asian and Caucasus States

The WOW sub-regional coordination work in Central Asia and the Caucasus was shared by two NGOs and namely the Wetlands International Russia Programme (Moscow, Russia), and the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity in Kazakhstan (Almaty, Kazakhstan). The Wetlands International Russia Programme started operations in 1997. It has since become active in the field of waterbird monitoring and conservation in Russia and neighbouring countries in Central Asia and the Caucasus. ACBK is an active BirdLife partner in the region and is also coordinating the development of the Important Bird Areas network.
