Across the AEWA region a number of training courses and awareness raising activities already exist and have taken place. However, their structure and delivery suffers from a number of limitations that do not enable sustainable management of wetland and migratory waterbirds. WOW hopes to tackle this problem by establishing Training and Awareness Raising Programs that will serve as a basis for strengthening the capacity for sustainable wetland and waterbird conservation across the AEWA region.

Wetlands International has through a consultative process developed a Training and Awareness Framework (PDF Format) for the project. The Training Kit Outline (PDF Format), approved by the sub-regional Training Boards, is currently being further developed into agreed modules with the support of a team of consultants. Furthermore, Wetlands International will facilitate an adaptation process whereby the modules will be tailored to specific needs and requirements in each of the four Sub-Regions in the AEWA area.

The project will not undertake to fund the implementation phase of the training and awareness raising programmes. However, the project will assist stakeholders to mobilise sufficient resources for their implementation.
