WOW Project Partnership showcased at CMS COP9 in Rome


Rome, 4 December 2008 - The Wings Over Wetlands (WOW) Project Partnership conducted a side event on Thursday, 4 December 2008 at the Ninth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS COP9) which took place 1-5 December 2008 in Rome, Italy. 

The WOW Exhibition Stand was on display and staffed throughout the duration of the conference and was visited by many of the 300 international delegates which attended the meeting.

The WOW side event was chaired by Dr. Gerard C. Boere (WOW Steering Committee Chair) and included presentations from representatives from the main WOW Partners: UNEP-GEF, Wetlands International, BirdLife International, BfN, The African-Eurasian Waterbird Agreement (AEWA), the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands and UNOPS.

The presentations highlighted the Critical Sites Network Tool, the Flyway Training Kit and the 12 Demonstration projects being developed and carried out in the framework of the project.

The international wildlife conference in Rome was a good opportunity to highlight how the Wings Over Wetlands (WOW) Project is a good example of “flyway conservation at work” in the African-Eurasian region.

CMS COP9 was hosted by the Government of Italy and took place at FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations) Headquarters.
